Port Alberni Community Dialysis Facility
Vancouver Island Health Authority approached Tectonica Management Inc. in November 2018 with a request to collaborate with the VIHA leasing and capital team to design-build a new Community Dialysis Facility in response to an emergent need to relocate the existing facility. The new facility opened in April 2019 after a very intense design-build process that saw the conversion of an existing commercial lease space (formerly a fitness center) to a purpose built community health facility complete with a Dialysis Clinic and new offices for the Mental Health office.
The completed project occupies just under 3,500 square feet of single story at grade commercial space and provides for six dialysis chairs, nursing stations, clean and sterile spaces, biomedical workshops, reverse osmosis water treatment systems, vaccine and outreach type patient care rooms, office space, and ancillary support spaces.
Services Provided
Tectonica Management Inc. provided professional design services including coordination of the required engineering consultants. We liaised with a range of VIHA stakeholder groups, planners, and directors, to develop a functional program and translate this into a completed set of architectural and engineering construction drawings. As a result of our strong relationship with the City of Port Alberni, building permits were expedited and construction started within five weeks of our engagement by VIHA.
