Home Away from Home Groundbreaking Marks the Start of a Meaningful Community Project
Tectonica is proud to be part of the team bringing this important community project to life at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
On October 8th, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of construction for Home Away from Home—an impactful new facility that will soon provide a vital resource for families across Vancouver Island.
Once complete, Home Away from Home (HAFH) will be a 16-bed housing facility located on the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital campus, offering families a comfortable and supportive place to stay while their loved ones receive medical care.
Named Jesse’s House in honour of the late daughter of Nanaimo resident Sheri Shanahan, the project carries a deeply personal story of love, resilience, and community. Inspired by Sheri’s experience staying at Victoria’s Jeneece Place while Jesse was in neonatal intensive care, Jesse’s House will offer other families the same comfort and closeness she once received.
Led by the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, the project will join similar family housing facilities in Victoria and Campbell River, helping keep families together during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Tectonica is honoured to be part of this meaningful and life-changing project, helping bring a place of comfort, care, and connection to our community.
