It is the unusual and unexpected that draws Darren to the construction industry. He has been involved in many complex projects where continual coordination of all different building systems is crucial to keeping a project running smoothly. He always works to find economical and efficient solutions to the inevitable surprises during construction.
Darren has been working as a structural design consultant since 1999 and as a Project/Construction Manager since 2005. He has designed and coordinated a multitude of projects ranging from single-family & multi-story residential, commercial, and light industrial to large condo conversions, institutional, heavy industrial, ski lodges and libraries. His portfolio includes buildings of all major construction materials, including steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
Darren’s experience as a Structural Engineer has provided the opportunity to explore a wide variety of projects built under many different construction models.
Following a ten year technical career, Bob became intrigued by real estate investment leading him to successive positions as a mortgage broker, mortgage underwriter, trust company branch manager and BC regional manager of a diverse portfolio of commercial properties. This latter position brought him and his family to Nanaimo in 1988 where he is now firmly rooted. In the early 1990’s Bob founded the commercial real estate brokerage, which became NAI Commercial Central Vancouver Island, and provides a full range of services to owners and occupiers of commercial properties. He has been involved in all aspects of management, sales, leasing, financing, syndication and redevelopment of commercial property.
2020 saw Bob conclude his successful real estate career and his transition out of active brokerage. Now, Bob focuses his time along with his considerable experience and passion for investment real estate in support of Tectonica’s clients and their project development goals while also seeking development collaboration opportunities for Tectonica’s affiliated development companies.
Tori’s career started with the design and estimating of portable treatment systems for wastewater, potable water and process water treatment on remote construction sites. An opportunity to work on a new hydroelectric project took Tori on a path to various large infrastructure and facility projects.
Tori’s construction experience in large infrastructure, power generation and oil & gas projects provided him with experience in Estimating, Scheduling, Procurement (Tendering), and Cost Control. With project locations across Western Canada, Tori has personal experience with the challenges of working in a variety of terrains and climates.
Tori’s analytical approach to projects and the understanding of key fundamental tools for project success serves both the project team and project goals of every client.
In 1973, Barry decided to forego the classroom, move to Nanaimo, and pursue the construction industry with his fledgling company, Hallmark Homes Ltd. For the next twelve years, this company grew with the community developing single-family residential subdivisions, commercial lease space, office, and multi-residential complexes within Central Vancouver Island.
By 1985, Barry had incorporated a new company, LDC Management Ltd, with the objective of blending general contracting with the range of services offered by a project manager. From that beginning to the incorporation of Tectonica Management Inc, he has sought to provide clients with the option of participating in a ‘concept to completion’ formula for new and renovated construction.
Barry currently supports Tectonica in a strategic advisory role.
After successfully completing his Journeyman Tile Setter Apprenticeship in 2002 in Germany, Florian moved to Nanaimo to continue his career as a tile setter in Canada. He has developed a wide variety of industry-specific skills and is a driven problem solver.
Florian’s direct experiences at Tectonica Management Inc. have focused on commercial renovations and new commercial construction. Florian’s proven leadership, problem-solving skills, ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks are all skills exemplified by his current role as the North Oyster Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief.
After initially pursuing a degree in chemistry, Alan switched his focus to his true passion for construction and hasn’t looked back. He began building his hands-on expertise in the field as a commercial framer, followed by three years of residential concrete forming and framing before developing and operating his own forming and framing company. Since joining Tectonica in 2008, Alan has embodied the core values of the team in his approach to site management.
Alan continues to develop a wide range of industry-specific skills that are complemented by his analytical approach to problem-solving, his ability to properly prioritize his efforts and the efforts of others, and his strong interpersonal skills. Alan’s direct experiences with Tectonica have focused on the on-site management of complex renovations, rehabilitation of historically significant and registered heritage buildings, and large scale commercial building projects.
Buddy grew up in the Netherlands where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering technology and gained practical, hands-on experience in computer-assisted design and manufacturing. In the ten years after finishing his degree, he mingled work in his chosen career path with two years of teaching English in multiple cities across Asia. His broad international experience creates an understanding of varied perspectives and is core to his team based site management style.
Buddy moved to Toronto in 2010 where he managed the construction of high-end bars and restaurants. Since joining our team in 2011, Buddy’s pro-active site management style, strong attention to detail, schedule, and considerable passion for on-site team building have proved a strong asset to the Tectonica team.
Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and a variety of experience from over 20 years in the Construction Industry. As a finishing carpenter for many years, he has an eye for detail, a high standard for his own work and for the work of trades on his projects.
With over 10 years of experience leading crews in the installation of trade show exhibits and commercial retail displays for high end clients like Mercedes and Dior Chris brings a level of planning and organization to projects with a strong commitment to timelines and quality.
Jackie is deeply passionate about learning and dedicated to staying current with the latest advancements in construction methods and technology. She actively seeks to understand the “why” behind decisions and procedures, which enables her to make informed choices, solve problems effectively, take accountability, and drive both efficiency and quality.
Jackie joined Tectonica in 2024 with a solid technical foundation in project management, building envelope design, and construction field reviews. She earned a diploma in Architectural Building Technology from BCIT in 2015 followed by seven years working as a building science technologist. In this role, Jackie gained extensive experience in designing and developing construction documents, managing budgets, overseeing tendering processes, conducting field reviews, and handling project closeout procedures.
Since transitioning to her role as a construction manager in early 2023, Jackie has successfully contributed to various large scale commercial and residential projects. She excels at fostering strong relationships with all project stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration throughout all stages of construction. Her expanding expertise across various building disciplines enables her to navigate complex challenges and deliver high-quality results.
Something that has always drawn Mikel to the construction industry is its constant push for improvement and innovation. Originally from Pamplona, Spain, Mikel graduated as an Architectural Engineer and began working in construction while still completing his degree. Early on, he had the opportunity to learn from a group of dedicated consultants who became his mentors and helped shape his hands-on approach.
Mikel has been involved in a variety of challenging projects, from retrofitting an 1890s heritage building to delivering new government facilities. In 2014, his career took him to London, where he joined a financial consulting team and discovered a passion for business and technology. After returning to Spain and spending several years between Barcelona and Pamplona, he launched a technology platform to support property operators managing real estate investment and rental portfolios.
In 2023, Mikel moved back to Nanaimo with his wife and daughter. Since then, he has been supporting clients across Vancouver Island as a Project and Construction Manager. His passion for building meaningful spaces and contributing to vibrant communities continues to drive his search for smart, creative, and forward-thinking development solutions.
Originally from Vancouver Island, Devon is a Red Seal Carpenter (certified in 2013) with over 17 years of construction experience. Unsure of what his future would look like, Devon discovered a love for building shortly after high school while working with a local company. In 2015, he moved to Howe Sound to expand his knowledge of construction and site management, taking on project lead roles that advanced both his technical and leadership skills. From 2019 to 2022, he led the construction of high-end homes in remote areas of Desolation Sound, overseeing everything from site supervision to complex logistics as the lead carpenter and site superintendent.
Now serving as Site Superintendent at Tectonica since July 2022, Devon brings a hands-on approach and a passion for quality craftsmanship. He’s particularly drawn to how the construction industry continues to evolve—embracing new techniques and ideas keeps the work both challenging and rewarding. He is well versed in all aspects of construction, from foundations to finishing, and his projects reflect a balance of practical experience, innovation, and an eye for detail.
Chris joined Tectonica in 2023 as a Senior Carpenter, bringing extensive experience in finishing carpentry and residential renovations. Originally from Chilliwack, BC, his career has taken him across Ontario, Northern BC, and now Vancouver Island.
Promoted to Site Coordinator in the summer of 2024, Chris plays a key role in ensuring construction accuracy, quality control, and clear communication across project teams. He also serves on the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) committee, helping to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
Leading by example, he combines precision with a strong ability to visualize 2D plans in 3D space. He sets high standards for craftsmanship and work ethic—both for himself and his team and he is proud to have contributed to projects that leave a lasting, positive impact on local communities.
Chris finds fulfillment in the tangible nature of construction—seeing daily progress and the results of hard work. Outside the job site, he is passionate about real estate investment and financial education.
Jeff has been in property management since 1997 and brings with him a hands-on approach to residential, strata, and commercial sites. A licensed Strata and Property Manager, he joined Tectonica in 2019, starting as a Site Manager before evolving into his current role as Facility Manager. Jeff doesn’t just work from a computer or office—he takes pride in being on-site, allowing for a proactive rather than reactive approach to maintenance.
With 27 years of experience in coaching and development, Jeff combines team-building skills with operational expertise. He’s led teams, managed complex facilities, and built strong relationships with tenants and vendors—always focused on delivering long-term value. Outside of work, Jeff is a passionate Manchester United supporter and an avid Formula 1 fan, always keeping up with the latest races and cheering on his team.
Stephen is a skilled and solution-focused professional who brings over 15 years of experience in operations and project management to his role at Tectonica Management Inc. With a deep passion for creating and maintaining functional, visually appealing spaces, he plays a vital role in enhancing both residential and commercial properties.
Known for his positive outlook and proactive approach, Stephen excels at anticipating project challenges and implementing effective solutions. He has extensive experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, consistently ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Throughout his career, Stephen has developed strong, lasting relationships with clients by listening carefully to their needs and exceeding expectations. Since joining Tectonica in late 2024 as a Senior Carpenter and with a focus on Facilities Maintenance, he has continued to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a strong commitment to client satisfaction.
Tyler joined Tectonica in April 2022 as a co-op student and has since grown into the role of Site Coordinator. A graduate of Vancouver Island University’s Integrated Engineering Technologist program, Tyler brings both academic knowledge and hands-on experience to every project. Originally from Langley and now based in Nanaimo, he blends a strong construction background—shaped by family and early career exposure—with a deep passion for building quality work.
Tyler plays a key role in overseeing the construction process on site, ensuring each phase runs smoothly, efficiently, and to the highest standards. His background in team-based environments—spanning over 15 years through sports and work—has made him a natural collaborator and communicator. He takes pride in delivering high-quality results and contributing to a positive, productive site culture.
Driven by the opportunity to learn something new every day, Tyler thrives in dynamic, hands-on settings. His energetic and optimistic attitude makes him a valued and motivating presence on every project.
Katie joined Tectonica in 2019 with no prior construction experience—just a strong work ethic and a passion for learning. She began in a labour role and quickly progressed to Site Safety Officer, then Site Coordinator, before stepping into her current position as Site Superintendent in 2023.
Originally from Ontario, Katie relocated to Vancouver Island 11 years ago. Before joining Tectonica, she travelled across Canada instructing training procedures with various organizations. She brings a solid foundation in management, a keen eye for organization, and a deep commitment to satisfy clients and their visions.
Katie embraces the dynamic nature of the construction industry and values the opportunity to guide projects from the ground up. The ever-changing landscape of her work, along with the chance to continuously grow and collaborate, is what keeps her motivated and inspired every day.
Throughout her 15+ years as a Chartered Professional Accountant, Marisa has gathered extensive experience in the areas of real estate accounting, municipal finance and accounting for small businesses. She is an invaluable resource as a financial advisor on construction projects, real estate developments and company operations.
Marisa has been instrumental in developing a multilayered approval system to ensure accurate and timely allocation of construction project expenses. With meticulous attention to detail and a streamlined process, she allows project managers to provide owners with accurate and timely representations of their project finances.
As a result of Marisa’s diversified experience, she is able to offer strong financial planning and analytical skills to the overall company development and is continually implementing strategies and procedures to increase efficiency and the level of service that Tectonica can provide its clients.
Holly joined Tectonica in September 2024, bringing over 15 years of accounting and administrative experience in the municipal, engineering, and retail sectors. With a diverse educational background in English literature, theatre, bookkeeping, and accounting, she offers a unique perspective that enriches her day-to-day work.
In her role at Tectonica, Holly plays a key part in ensuring smooth and accurate financial operations while providing dependable administrative support across the team. Her strong communication skills, technical expertise, and meticulous attention to detail—combined with a natural enthusiasm and kindness—help ensure accuracy, efficiency, and a positive team environment.
Although her background was primarily in the municipal sector, Holly was interested in exploring a new industry where her skills could continue to grow. Tectonica offered a good fit—professionally and culturally—and made the transition into construction a compelling next step.
She’s especially inspired by the human side of her work—seeing how empathy and care can be embedded in even the most technical accounting processes. For Holly, it’s not just about the numbers; it’s about supporting people behind the scenes.
Michelle first joined Tectonica in 2007 as an office manager. However, her passion for residential construction and renovations soon led her to transition into a construction management role, where she contributed to the company’s first single-family home projects. During this time, Michelle gained hands-on experience in all aspects of residential construction—from creating and managing budgets to selecting finishes, overseeing trades, and collaborating with suppliers, as well as supporting marketing and sales efforts. This comprehensive experience has given her a well-rounded understanding of the entire construction process.
After taking time off to raise her daughter, Michelle returned to Tectonica in 2019. She took on a variety of roles, including marketing and sales/rental support for affiliated company projects, managing home warranty processes, and eventually returning to her office manager responsibilities. Today, Michelle is also one of three directors overseeing the company’s development and growth. Her diverse experience and leadership in both operational and construction management make her an invaluable part of the Tectonica team.
Lacy joined the Tectonica team in 2023 as a contract administrator, bringing with her a wealth of experience from various roles in the construction industry. Her background includes client support and administration, running her own design and renovation business and serving as the general contractor for her family’s custom home build. Throughout her career, Lacy has honed skills in budget creation and management, project administration, collaborating with trades, navigating the building process, and overseeing contracts and liabilities from start to finish.
In her current role, Lacy supports the Project and Construction Managers with contract administration, ensuring accuracy and consistency of documentation, contract billing review, organizing payment approvals, and maintaining document control. Lacy brings a positive, caring and detail oriented approach to all of her work.
Lacy also enjoys stepping out of the office and onto job sites to gain a firsthand perspective of the projects she’s supporting.
