ORCA Veterinary Hospital
This project involved the interior fit-up of a vacant 4,380 sq. ft. space to suit the needs of the client’s Orthopedic and Referral Center for Animals. Located at 1861 Dufferin Crescent in Nanaimo, the project repurposed a former café and office space, including the addition of a second-story mezzanine. The result is a purpose-built animal care facility featuring exam rooms, operating rooms, a reception area, an administrative work area, storage spaces and staff common areas.
The project presented several complex challenges, particularly the integration of advanced medical systems within an existing structure that had limited ceiling heights and structural constraints. Tectonica successfully navigated these issues through close collaboration with trades and a detailed review of the building plans, allowing for early identification and resolution of potential conflicts.
Tectonica also managed the coordination and implementation of all critical systems, including HVAC, operating room lighting booms, CT scanners, and X-ray machines. The completed facility is a modern, efficient, and comfortable veterinary hospital that meets high clinical performance standards.
